soooo..... one more dry fit, the next time is with glue. legs and feet are rough shaped, crest rail curve has been cut, and the seat has been sanded to 200 grit. nothing left but... a ton of work.
sam maloof chair #2
Today I carved the seats for both chairs and finished fitting the legs on the Sam Maloof styled low backed chair. The legs are dry fit, waiting for the crest rail to be fit and shaped. A lot more sanding yet.
my belief
Of all crafts, to be an honest man is the master craft.
I've bandsawn the rough shape of the seat, the leg - seat joint has been fitted, and the leg-foot bridle joint has been fitted.
Now I take it apart (again, and again, and again), bandsaw the rough shape of the legs and feet and glue up the seat.
conoid chair #5
I am actually going to make 2 chairs at the same time- the low backed conoid chair and a low backed Sam Maloof style chair which I have made before in walnut. Here are the pieces- the seat and the front and back legs.
