The staves for the seats have been cut out, the crest rail sits across the back and the slots have been rough cut for the 2 legs (not showing- under the crest rail). You can see how ripping these pieces at 3 degrees begins to form the shape of the seat.

Getting ready for the Paradise City Arts Festival in Northampton in October.
conoid chair #3
So, I started making the seats for the 2 chairs today. The drawing above was made for a presentation about my chairs to the woodworker's guild. The 19" x 4" staves for the seat are cut at a 3 degree angle (red lines on 2nd drawing)That starts to form a curve. I then cut slots for 10mm. domino tenons (2 each joint), and bandsaw the center stave to the profile in the bottom drawing. I then trace this cut line on the next 2 outer staves and cut to this line with the bandsaw ( holding the pieces at a slight angle) and this roughs out the seat bottom. Then I make the leg cutout on the outside staves, including routing the angled shoulders with special 3 degree angle cutters. I'll try to keep everyone updated.
